Degraded RAID Recovery
Repairing any RAID when one or more RAID drives are in degraded mode, fail or go offline is beyond the capability of software. Successful RAID data recovery requires extensive knowledge of hex, hard drive structures, MFT mount points and offsets to avoid restriping and destroying data while attempting to repair your degraded array.

If you have already run utilities to repair your degraded RAID array but it is still operating in degraded mode, or you can not mount your array, you should stop. DO NOT attempt a forced rebuild. Doing so will wipe out your data!

RAID repair utilities and software are not designed to recover, restore data or rebuild RAID arrays that are in degraded mode due to failing hard drives. Specialized equipment and professional training is required.

When you swap hard drives or re-order drives in a degraded or offline RAID array you run the risk of overwriting your striping and parity which makes it nearly impossible to rebuild your array and recover your company's vital data.

You should seek expert help before further damage is caused to your data.

 

 

Potential Causes of a Failed or Degraded RAID Array

• Adding incompatible hard drives to the RAID array
• Hardware conflicts with the hard drive and RAID server
• Software corruption to the operating system
• A virus infection, software or operating system upgrade
• Your RAID controller fails or the configuration has recently changed
• Two or more hard drives fail or go offline in the RAID Array
• Your RAID Server crashes and won't remount the array or volume(s)
• Your RAID configuration becomes corrupt or damaged.
